Mivule Forest Conservancy is a nature-based climate protection initiative, striving to increase the robustness of Uganda’s existing natural forests, as well as increasing the coverage of natural forests in the country. Established in 2013, and located in Masaka District – Central Uganda, Mivule Forest Conservancy is currently serving the greater Masaka area, with plans to operate nationally in the near future. We are currently focusing on community-supported indigenous tree seeds’ collection, tree propagation and advisory services, all of which will support re-afforestation efforts in the country. For our re-afforestation program, we seek to support in the rehabilitation of deforested landscapes around Lake Victoria.

VISION:

Therefore, Mivule Forest Conservancy strives to be a leading organization in advancing nature-based climate protection interventions for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

Objectives

To provide leadership in forest-aided and related climate protection and biodiversity conservation interventions in Uganda.
To build a network of indigenous tree seeds collection volunteers.
To promote tree planting, re-afforestation, forest conservation and related climate-protection awareness in our areas of operation.
To promote family and individual forestry culture in Uganda;
To develop socio-forestry models for nature conservation and nature-based community development;
To do research and inventories on indigenous tree species (including longitudinal forest monitoring and recovery analysis, and carbon sequestration potential of various tree species).
To promote innovative forestry practices, such as; bee conservation using forest spaces; blended on-farm tree conservation (for food, medicine, firewood, and native species); establishment of green museums (endangered and threatened tree species).

Our Philosophy

For a multi-functional forest-society nexus, forests of the future ought to be socially embedded and communities of the future ought to be forest-conservation sensitive and responsive. Forests of the future need to bear social and ecological consciousness, that promote interspecies, multispecies, and multi-functional management.
